Weekend Update – Emerson Turns Two
Emerson turned two this weekend, and we had our party out at Blythe Park. Grandpa Steve and Grandma Deb were in town (and we sneakily invited them to help set up), and Grandma Elaine and Papa Lee made the trip up as well. Notable items included: 1) a Robot-shaped cupcake birthday cake, and 2) WAY too much food. My boy is 2. The rest of the weekend was something of a blur. Saturday afternoon was basically an exercise in trying to keep the girls from stealing Emerson's new toys, and trying to allow Emerson to learn to share. Lydia found it rough, seeing a ton of new toys spread around that she was supposed to wait for. On Saturday evening we tried a BBQ place up in Lake City, called Rainin' Ribs. The ribs were decent, but my favorite had to be the hushpuppies (little fried cornbread balls, with bits of jalapeño in them.) Sunday morning, Grandpa Steve, Grandma Deb and I took the kids down to my standard Jay's Café, for breakfast. It was nice to finally get to include Steve and Deb in those regular old activities that make up our life up here. It might not be much (it was only breakfast), but it's those very specific things that make up all of who we are. Being included in that stuff is just as important as those 'big' events that prove to be more a pain in the ass than they're worth. They occur more often, too. Sunday afternoon, I had volunteered to spend time at Country Village, manning a registration booth our preschool, Woodinville Family Preschool, had setup there. I'm on the board of Woodinville Family Preschool, because I absolutely believe in the mission of the preschool, and have really connected with the community that the preschool helps foster, so volunteering to man the booth was simply an automatic 'yes.' The less-than-stellar weather seemed to impact turnout though, so there weren't a lot of folks there. Still, we did manage to talk to a few parents, and give out a few registration forms. I published a single photo from the birthday party, mostly because the photos from my phone came out a little blurry. Still, it's a great one, with my little man blowing out the candles on his birthday cake.
